HOW TO APPLY

WRITE TO US

But first of all please read all the sections of this website carefully to check whether your project is eligible.

We only accept applications by post. A letter no more than two sides long is all that is necessary at first, giving an outline of the project, who will benefit, a detailed costing, the existing sources of finance of the organisation, and what other applications, including those to statutory sources and the Lottery, have been made. Please also say if you have applied to or received a grant previously from this trust.

Grants are usually in the £5 – £15,000 range, for both capital and revenue. Those for salaries or running costs can be repeated on an annual basis for a maximum of 3 years.

Please read the Exclusions section carefully first before applying, as it is possible that the particular aspect of your application, rather than the general purpose of your organisation, may be excluded. 21% of the applications we received in 2006 were outside our guidelines.

Please do not send videos, tapes or bulky reports. They will not be returned.

Annual accounts will be asked for if your application is going to be taken further.

Applications can be made to the Director at any time. There are 'no closing dates', and all letters of appeal will be answered, we hope within 6 weeks. But please remember, only two sides in the first instance. And don't shrink it - edit it!

See Contact Details for where to send your application.

VISITS

If a project is short-listed for taking forward for a grant over £2,000, it will also have to be visited by the Director before an application can be considered by the Trustees. This may mean a delay, as it is only possible to visit a small part of the country between each quarterly Trustees' meeting.

TRUSTEE MEETINGS

The Trustees usually meet around the end of March, June, September and December. There is a short-listing process, and not all applications are taken forward. Not all those taken forward will necessarily be put to the next trustee's meeting as the Director may not be visiting their area in that particular quarter. Three months is the least it usually takes to award a grant. Some small grants of up to £2,000 can be made in between meetings without a visit, but only for specific purposes.
