The J Paul Getty Jr Charitable Trust will be permanently closing to all online applications at 12.00pm on Friday 18th January 2013.
No unsolicited applications received after this time will be considered. It is the intention of the Trustees to wind down the Trust over the next three years.
We support artistic endeavour of the highest possible quality. This includes all forms of visual and performing arts. We are also interested in applications focused on bringing the highest quality arts to new audiences.
We will also support artistic endeavours aiming to develop the skills and confidence of the disadvantaged groups prioritised in our social welfare programme. Arts workshops for prisoners and young offenders, or for young people living in areas with few youth facilities should be made under the relevant Social welfare programme.
The Trust makes significant awards each year towards the protection and conservation of fine buildings, collections and artefacts that are of importance to our national heritage.
We also occasionally award grants for training in conservation, and are interested in apprenticeship schemes which help to sustain traditional skills. Please note that we do not accept unsolicited applications for routine maintenance, repairs, refurbishment or modernisation costs, or large-scale development projects, such as church restoration work or the construction of new village halls and local community centres.
The Trust supports a small number of environment projects each year, and is especially interested in work to restore historic gardens, and to protect and enhance beautiful landscapes or areas of special conservation value. However, we do not accept applications for the preservation of individual species.
We very occasionally award grants towards training in conservation skills.
In all cases, we will favour projects that link with our other priority areas (for instance by engaging any of the groups outlined under our
Social welfare category in regions where there is multiple disadvantage) and also consider projects that encourage greater public appreciation and enjoyment of the natural environment.
